P. S. It was raining cats, dogs and everything Tuesday night. Here’s a shot I took at our Merriman’s gig in Kapalua earlier that evening. It was fun to watch the lightning show that was taking place as we did our gig. Later as we were getting ready for the load out we were told that Honoapiilani Highway was closed due to the river in Olowalu flowing over the highway and the landslide that occurred further down the road. We made the most of a bad situation – got a hotel room (it was full vacancy pretty much everywhere…well in our budget anyway), stopped at Safeway to get some provisions, checked in and watched the news as we enjoyed our scrumptious dinner from Merriman’s. We later found out just before we were turned in for the night that the road had reopened. We also saw from FB feeds and other media feeds that the traffic was crazy as you can imagine it would be after a road closure. So we stayed put, got up early the next morning and made our way back up to Makawao. It was a gorgeous morning – the highway was clear of debris and there was no traffic…smooth sailing. You’d never know there was so much chaos the night before from that part of the island.
