P. S. Well H C & S Company has started the 144th and last sugar cane harvest. I was one of those “raised on sugar cane” as my Dad toiled for H C & S for over 45 years. In fact my two grandfathers and my paternal grandmother, as well as two of my many Uncles, also worked for the sugar company. I have never known a day without seeing the beautiful waving cane fields and I am so sad to think that soon they will no longer be a part of my life. Our thoughts are with the many workers who will be laid off by the end of this year and with their families as well. Hope continues for a green, eco-friendly future of the aina after all is said and done. Phil took this photo recently of the fields of ko, a view soon to be gone forever.
